ACTING IN CLOSE UP - SCHOOL OF ACTING
A Modern Approach for Today's Actor

Students will work at their own pace and level through the employment of a series of levels of advancement beginning with an Induction level (Level 1), then Foundation (Level 2), and so on, with advanced levels offering continuing learning, training and practice for working professionals.

Level One - All students attending the classes will begin with the Induction Level.  Here we will work on the basic skills an actor requires in any medium: trust, truth, naturalism, confidence and expression through improvisation and simple exercises.  As it becomes clear that an actor is familiar ond comfortable with these basic skills, they will be invited to join the Foundation Class.

Level 2 - Foundation students will build upon these basics by learning how to develop emotional involvement, beginning character work and working on simple scripts among other things.  The students will also be introduced to simple camera techniques in order to become comfortable with themselves in front of a camera, and to begin to understand how their performance translates onto the screen.

Level 3 - The next level - Beginner - will build further on emotional development, script work and more complex camera techniques.

Levels 4 & 5 - Intermediate Levels will begin to see actors working at a level where they will be encouraged to work in the field; they will continue to develop their skills both in character, on script and on camera.  They will also be introduced to career development and audition techniques.  By the completion of Level 5, actors will be considered suitable candidates for more professional work and of interest to agents.

Advanced Levels Beyond Intermediate - There will advanced levels where actors develop more advanced techniques, learn to cope with difficult requirements and situations, understand complex emotions and generally develop their skill and build their repertoire.  At the more advanced levels they will have the opportunity to work personally with a tutor to help develop real characters and scripts that they have secured professionally, prepare for auditions, and work on scripts in small groups.

It is hoped that, when the students have attained an appropriate level (around 4/5) that actors will be filmed in short scenes to be showcased and help begin their showreel.  Plans for this are still in development, but may also include showcases for all levels at a future date.
